Advanced Dowsing

Some people have the skill of 'list dowsing'. It involves choosing remedies by name from a list. This is helpful when you do not have the essence actually in front of you. It is a skill that has to be practised in order to develop it.

Back to Col Merrylees, the expert dowser who could detect unexploded bombs and water: 'I do not dowse to find minerals, missing people or lost objects nor do I detect diseases, but I am always learning.' He felt that different people have differing abilities to dowse and differing areas of expertise. Personally I find at present that I can work intuitively with considerable accuracy on flower essences but that map dowsing or finding lost objects are not my particular fields. They may however, with practice, be yours!

The answers you get by dowsing seem to be limited in scope, but only by the scope of your questioning. Some time ago I thought I had cleared and healed everything in myself for the time being and then I found all sorts of strange emotions coming up to the surface, including some spitefulness (Holly) and resentment (Willow). Trying to find out where it was coming from was fun!

Eventually I came up with a number of different aspects of myself to ask about, on the basis that the more precise the questioning, the higher the quality of answers. In fact, in life, it appears that once you have correctly formulated the question, the answer becomes obvious. The different aspects you could ask for include:

  • Your highest good
  • Physical level
  • Emotional level
  • Mental level
  • Etheric level
  • Personality
  • Past episodes of sadness - there can be several, each needing separate identification
  • Past generally - for example a long, slow shock
  • Future issues whose seeds are coming to the surface
  • For your masculine aspects
  • For your feminine aspects
  • Is there one single core issue?
  • Are you lost yet???

You really don't have to go so deep. It is quite sufficient to ask for the most appropriate combination for the present. But it is important to know about these aspects, even if you never need to use them.

Sometimes it is useful to ask, on a scale of zero to ten, how important this issue is, or how much it has been resolved already. Ten would represent unresolved; zero, fully resolved; one, 90 percent resolved, and so on. For example, you might carry a sadness from the loss of a grandparent to be resolved using Mustard and Walnut, which scored 2 intuitively. This would mean that the issue is nearly fully resolved, but could do with just a little more healing.

When you have completed your intuitive selection, do read about each essence, particularly the positive aspects of the remedy picture. Doing this is a valuable way to gain self-knowledge and insight.
