Experience = Event + Reaction (Emotion)
Our reaction includes our personal emotions from the present, the past, other times and spaces, our family conditioning, tribal prejudices, and animal reflexes and instincts.
A reaction can only process down one of two chemical pathways:
Life includes millions of experiences, from brushing your teeth to falling in love, from walking the street to losing a friend – and the vast majority of them resolve without problem.
However, whatever ends up in the baggage pile, our Shadow, gets stuck. And more and more accumulates – that is, until we decide to do some spring cleaning. Our Shadow contains all sorts of stuck emotions, or patterns of imbalance, often relating to specific events, circumstances.
How do we deal with our Shadow? Denial! – we pretend it's not there! Ask a hundred people how they are – they'll mostly say "I'm fine". Fine!? Well, maybe on the surface...
